|High Rise Guide Scope Adapter|
My Astro-Tech 8" Imaging Newtonian (AT8IN) balanced in both axis very well out of the box with a Nikon D700 (1.82lbs. w/o battery) mounted in the focuser. When I began auto-guiding, that situation changed. The Atlas EQ-G/AT8IN combination would no longer balance well in the declination axis. Balance was easy to achieve when the OTA was parallel to the ground. But, whenever the OTA angle was changed, in either direction, by as little as 15*, the OTA would fall off in the direction of change. This in-balance places a mechanical burden on the mount and causes the autoguider to work overtime. The result is a fragile balance, at best.
